I am JP: an operatic bass from Quebec. Read below to get to know me a little more.

Jean-Philippe Mc Clish is a bass from Quebec City, praised for his “superb warm, full, deep, powerful, and impressive voice” (Ludwig Van). His talent has led him to perform with a wide range of companies, including Opéra de Québec, Theater Orchester Biel Solothurn, Opéra de Montréal, Edmonton Opera, Regensburg Opera, Orchestre Métropolitain, Orchestre symphonique de Québec, Orchestre symphonique de Trois-Rivières, Kingston Symphony, Toronto Summer Music Festival, and Verbier Festival. He is also set to debut with Palazzetto Bru Zane.

In the 2024/25 season, Jean-Philippe took on the roles of Achilla (Giulio Cesare), Colline (La Bohème), Zuniga (Carmen), and Sparafucile (Rigoletto). Past roles include Figaro (Le nozze di Figaro), Don Alfonso (Così fan tutte), Il Re (Ariodante), Kékszakállú (Bluebeard’s Castle), Raimondo (Lucia di Lammermoor), and Garibaldo (Rodelinda), Frère Laurent (Roméo et Juliette), Orbazzano (Tancredi), Die Mutter (Die sieben Todsünden), Nourabad (Les Pêcheurs de perles), and Dr. Grenvil (La Traviata). In the 2025/26 season, Jean-Philippe will debut as Alidoro (La Cenerentola) and Beautreillis (Jean de Nivelle).

In concert and oratorio repertoire, Jean-Philippe has performed the bass part in Requiem (Mozart), Messiah (Händel), Messa da Requiem (Verdi), Petite Messe Solennelle (Rossini), and Knaben Wunderhorn (Mahler).

His accolades include the Art Song Foundation Award, the Jacqueline Desmarais Award, and a prize-winner in the Orchestre symphonique de Trois-Rivières Competition. Jean-Philippe was a studio member of the Atelier Lyrique at Opéra de Montréal from 2019 to 2021. He holds both a Master’s degree and an Artist Diploma from the McGill Schulich School of Music and a Bachelor's degree from the Conservatoire de musique et d'arts dramatiques de Quebec.
Jean-Philippe is fluent in French, Italian, English and intermediate German.
